SUPPORT A CHILD stands for the Sponsorship for the Underprivileged People’s Protection and their Offsprings’ Rehabilitation and Training by ATMATA through Concatenating Health-care Initiatives with Love and Dedication. It is a programme to cater the under privileged, HIV, cancer and other incurable diseases infected and affected children irrespective of cast, creed and religion in the state of Kerala in India, especially in the area of Arch Diocese of Changanacherry. The main objectives, strategies and activities of the programme are as follows:

Main Objectives:-

• To mainstream the HIV, cancer and other incurable diseases infected and affected children in the society so that they may not become anti-socials(ASPD)

• To make visible the HIV infected people, as much as possible in the community for positive prevention and to assure care and support to PLHIV and other infected people.

• To reduce stigma and discrimination towards HIV infected and affected children and PLHIV.
Strategies

• Integrated functional complimentary support

• Capacity skill building of PLHIV, HIV, cancer and other incurable diseases infected and affected children.

• Fruitful interaction of healthy and under healthy/unhealthy people in a conducive environment.

Activities:-

• Distribution of Rs.500 per/m, educational materials and nutrients to HIV, cancer and other incurable illness infected and affected children(Support A Child beneficiaries)

• Life skill training to the infected and affected children and their care takers.

• Counseling and other psychosocial support to the Support A Child beneficiaries families, relatives and significant community members.

• Home visit to the Support A Child beneficiaries by ORWs/volunteers and community sensitization through seminars and IEC materials.

• Monthly gathering of infected and affected people with healthy supporters in each district which consists of prayer, awareness classes, sharing of experience, food etc.

ATMATA Kendram supported HIV infected and affected children for last four years. In the second phase it supports cancer infected and affected children and mental illness and other incurable diseases affected children from this year onwards along with HIV infected and affected children.183 children are being supported presently with help from local benefactors. We have received applications of another 241 children who are to be supported. We need financial support to meet their basic needs and to up bring them to the mainstream of the society and help them to live with dignity.

from being drop outs in schools
As well as to provide social, economic, moral, and spiritual support to the children and to their families.

How can I “SUPPORT A CHILD” ?

• You can sponsor a child by donating Rs.6000/- yearly for the Educational, Nutritional and Medical support.

• The sponsors and the beneficiaries can have communication through ATMATA Kendram.

• ATMATA Kendram will organize meetings of the sponsors and the benefeciaries on certain occassions.

• The beneficiaries will pray for the sponsors.
